38-year-old David Kerrigan has now been jailed after robbing multiple elderly and vulnerable victims whilst he pretend to be a police officer.
David Kerrigan robbed multiple victims between Tuesday the 4th of April 2020 and Sunday the 2nd of August 2020. During these robberies he pretended to be a police officer in order to gain his victims’ trust. David mainly target the elderly, his victims were between the age of 61 and 96.
According to the statement released by the metropolitan police department, David Kerrigan wore dark clothing and he would provide a fake warranty card. Because of this the victims who fell for his scams would allow him to look through the whole house as he searched for valuables he could steal. He even asked the other victims were they kept the money in the house making it easy for him to steal it from them.
He stole purses and wallets containing around 4000 pounds in cash, he also stole jewellery and watches from the victims.
Whilst the metropolitan police was investigating burglaries in Newham and Waltham Forest they noticed the similarities between most of them, they discovered that the suspect used the same techniques to gain into the victims’ homes. By this time they were now confident that these robberies were committed by the same person.
After an investigation by the police arrested David Kerrigan in connection to the incidents.
While he was being interviewed at the police station he threatened and racially abused the officer who was interviewing him. On Tuesday the second of November he pleaded guilty to 12 counts of burglary and 1 count of racially aggravated harassment, on the 26th of November he was sentenced to nine years and 10 months’ imprisonment.
If you have elderly or vulnerable friends and family you should try and warn them so they won’t have to fall for scams like these.
