It’s time to fluff those feathers and float those dreams—because Staines-upon-Thames’ most quackers tradition is making a splash once again!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 29th, as the Great Staines Duck Race returns to the River Colne and Thames as part of Staines-upon-Thames Day—a festival of fun, family, and flocks of fearless (plastic) competitors.

Hosted by the brilliant folks at MidasPlus, this isn’t just any old duck race. This is a battle of style, speed, and splash where giant decorated ducks (yes, really!) representing local businesses go head-to-head—or beak-to-beak—in a race that’s equal parts fierce and funny.

Here’s what’s in store:

  • The Big Duck Race – Picture this: enormous rubber ducks in full costume, floating downriver like they own the place. Local businesses get creative, competing not just to win, but to wow—with prizes for best-dressed duck and fastest finisher. First prize? A cool £400, plus bragging rights for an entire year.
  • The Small Duck Race – Feeling lucky? You can sponsor a mini duck for just £2, and if your duck crosses the finish line first, you could take home a prize too. Great for kids, families, or anyone who wants to get in on the fun without getting wet.

The action kicks off at 3 PM, but the whole day is packed with entertainment, street food, craft stalls, live performances, and good vibes all along the riverside. Think community fair meets riverside carnival—with a whole lot of duck.

All proceeds go to local charities, so not only is this one of the quirkiest days out in Surrey, it’s all for a good cause.

So whether you’re racing, cheering, or just soaking in the fun—don’t miss the most delightful day in Staines’ calendar. Come for the ducks. Stay for the laughs.
