On December 9 2022, a one-year-old boy tragically died while at a nursery in Bourne Street, Dudley, a town located near Birmingham. In the wake of this sad event, the West Midlands Police launched a criminal investigation and arrested six women in connection with the case.

Three of the women, aged 20, 23, and 50, were taken into custody on December 16 and were subsequently released on bail with strict conditions as the investigation continued. These women were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

On January 4, three additional women, aged 51, 53, and 37, were arrested in connection with the case. Two of these women were arrested on suspicion of corporate manslaughter, while the third was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

As a result of the investigation, the nursery where the one-year-old boy died has been closed by Ofsted, along with other linked premises. The boy’s family is being supported by specially trained officers during this difficult time. A post mortem examination has been conducted, but further tests will be needed in order to determine the exact cause of death.

The West Midlands Police have stated that the death of the one-year-old boy is being treated as suspicious. It is clear that the authorities are taking this matter very seriously and are working to get to the bottom of what happened. The investigation is ongoing, and it is important to let the legal process run its course before jumping to any conclusions.
