Gary McKibbin, a 36-year-old resident of Edmeston Close in E9, has been sentenced to three years and two months in prison by Wood Green Crown Court on March 14. He had pleaded guilty to robbery at the same court on March 7.
According to the court, the incident took place on February 11, when the police were informed by a member of the public that a man was being held by several people in Kyverdale Road, N16. Upon arrival, the officers found McKibbin being restrained by two members of the public, with additional witnesses present.
Investigations revealed that he and another man robbed a woman of her earrings and attempted to take more items from her by violently pushing her to the ground. Some members of the public intervened and detained McKibbin until the arrival of the police, while the other suspect managed to escape.
McKibbin was charged with robbery and later convicted. The other suspect remains at large and is described as a black man in his 30s, 5ft 3ins to 5ft 5ins tall, and wearing dark clothing.
Superintendent Andy Port of the Central East area’s Neighbourhoods Team thanked the members of the public who intervened and detained McKibbin and appealed for information about the second suspect. He also emphasized that it is important for the public to feel safe on the streets of London, and the police are working hard to bring violent offenders like McKibbin to justice. Detective Inspector Nikki Hardy of the Central East’s Burglary and Robbery Investigation Team expressed her gratitude to the investigation teams for their work in quickly bringing McKibbin to justice and to the members of the public who assisted on the night of the incident. Anyone with information about the second suspect is urged to contact the police or Crimestoppers.
