On the 15th of May 28-year-old Alah El-hamd fell out of a window after using recreational drug which caused him to hallucinate.
The emergence services rushed to the scene and he was airlifted to St George’s hospital. At first the family didn’t know if he was going to make it or not.
“After becoming stable he was mobile, then the hospital sedated him and he has been bed-bound and getting worse since” His 21-year-old brother Feras said.
According to My London News, Ala’s mother said she feels let down by the NHS.
She said: “After surgery he was in a coma for 10 days. When he woke from it, he stabilised and he was fully mobile and just wanted to go, begging me ‘take me out of here, take me out of here’ but he couldn’t because he was attached to tubes and the doctors didn’t let him leave.
“The hospital refused my wishes due to ‘complications’ but I do believe if he had the chance to stand up then he would have been able to come home and be walking properly by now.
“They were not listening to what I was saying, instead telling me ‘we are professionals, we know better’.”
The family have now set up a gofundme fundraiser to help put him in private care. The fundraiser have managed to raise £18,500, they hope to raise £75 000 as it will cost about £11,200 a week.
I do understand that the family is frustrated but I don’t think the nhs would do something that would not be in the best favour of the patient. Most of the doctors or nurses that I have talked to would sometimes cancel their personal holidays and they work over 12 hours sometimes. If nhs staff didn’t care that much they would have moved to private hospitals were they can get up to 25% more in wages.
