On New Year’s Day, an elderly woman was rushed to the hospital after being attacked in Clapton Common in North London. The 80-year-old woman suffered a shoulder injury, but her condition was not life-threatening.
At the scene of the attack, police arrested a 44-year-old woman, Melisa Kasanda, from Queens Road in Hackney. Kasanda was taken into custody and later charged with wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
On January 2, Kasanda was formally charged and appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court the following day. During the court appearance, she was remanded in custody and scheduled to appear at Wood Green Crown Court at a later date.
A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police provided a statement, stating that police were called to the Clapton Common area at 12:11pm on January 1 in response to reports of an assault. When they arrived, they found the elderly woman who had been attacked and treated her injuries with the help of paramedics from the Hatzola ambulance service. The woman was then taken to the hospital for further treatment.
