It is truly horrifying to hear of the sexual assault that took place on December 23, 2022, involving a woman in her 70s. It is a devastating violation of one’s body and autonomy, and our hearts go out to the victim and her loved ones during this difficult time.

On December 31, 2022, James Bex, a 35-year-old man with no fixed address, was arrested in connection with this heinous crime. He was charged the following day with attempted rape, inducing a female aged 13 or above to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity, burglary, fraud by false representation (x2), and assault by beating.

As a society, it is our responsibility to support survivors of sexual assault and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions. It is reassuring to see that Bex has faced justice and appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 2, where he was remanded in custody until his next hearing at Isleworth Crown Court on January 30.

We stand with the victim and all survivors of sexual assault. It is never the fault of the survivor, and they deserve to be treated with compassion, respect, and support. We must do everything in our power to create a safer, more just world for all.
